Guild of Church Bellringers

St John's, Hensingham is part of the Western Branch of the Carlisle Diocesan Guild of Bellringers.

We ring to call the faithful to worship and to remind others of the church's presence in the community.

Interesting Info
The first complete ring of bells fitted with a set of modern ball bearings was at Hensingham.

The bells of St John's were presented by The Musgrave Family in 1914.

St John’s is on the outskirts of Whitehaven at grid ref. NX985166. or Postcode CA28 8QW.

The Hensingham bells are fitted with Hastings stays used by the Taylor's foundry between 1895 and 1960.

The Hensingham tower has a restored Ellacombe Apparatus meaning the bells can be rung with out the need for ringers.
  About St John's...

St John’s Church was originally built in 1913. The tower of St John’s Hensingham contains eight bells hung for full circle ringing. They were cast by Taylor’s of Loughborough and installed in 1914. They are tuned to F# and the tenor weight is 13Hcwt. (700Kg)

  When do we ring?
We are very much a part of the fellowship of the church and we ring regularly for Sunday worship, weddings, with additional ringing for Christmas, Easter and special services.

Our Tower practice night is Tuesdays & Mondays for Hand Bells.
